Hi, I’m Lyneisa!

and I am so glad you are here!

Let’s get to know one another! Here’s a little bit about me:

  • I love old, vintage things. Y’know, stuff from the past that has a story to tell. Yep, I’m a sucker for a flea market!
  • I love country living. I’ve done the city thing and the small town thing, but I’m happiest in a more rural setting.
  • I am fascinated by the traditional housekeeping, homesteading, and creative pursuits of the past.

As a lifelong resident of Northeast Texas, I spent my childhood living next to my grandparents’ small farm in the rural countryside on land that had belonged to my great-grandfather.  My parents and grandparents were simple people, with few possessions and little money, but they taught me how to work hard, not only survive but thrive, and most importantly, love. It was an idyllic childhood and those experiences deeply influence who I am today, what I hope to accomplish, and the type of life I believe is most worth living.

As an only child and the only grandchild living close by, I often helped with whatever chores might need doing, whether it was picking and canning the vegetables, sewing, or re-roofing the house. In turn, I gained lots of knowledge of the old ways as well as developing a strong work ethic.  It was through these experiences that my interest in preserving the lost arts of the past was born and grew. I knew that I wanted to live a life similar to that of my grandparents: a simple home on some acreage, growing/raising my own food, and learning the many skills of the past in order to be more self-sufficient.

But it didn’t start out that way!

After college, I took a corporate job in the city and spent my evenings and weekends pursuing my country living hobbies as best I could, by gardening in containers and teaching myself to knit. However, my dream of owning acreage didn’t come true until I found and married a man that wanted the same thing I did. Now we own 2o acres in the country and are slowly building our homestead, bit by bit. I still work outside the home full-time and despite not being able to be a full-time old-fashioned farm wife, I try to incorporate bits of vintage advice and flair into my daily life. By consulting a number of vintage homemaking manuals and textbooks I picked up at flea markets, antique malls, and used bookstores, I am working to create some simple routines to keep chaos at bay. And I’m still learning more ways to better manage all that homemaking entails from these texts of the past.

Add in our adventures in animal husbandry and other farm projects and we stay pretty busy! There’s never a dull moment but we are learning to “make do” within the confines of our circumstances and trusting in the tried and true advice of the many men and women that came before us.

And that’s exactly what living a vintage country life is all about.

So, if you love the charm and grace of yesteryear, are fascinated by old-fashioned homemaking and inspired by the past, or long to live out in the country, join me as I share the many lessons in homemaking, life management, and rural living that once were passed down from generation to generation (and can be again!).
